The beginning stages:

My process for The Monochromes involves several stages of adding and removing paint. I use large brushes, rags and palette knives (including the really large one I picked up in St. Thomas last week).

Knowing when a work is "finished" can be a challenge for any artist. I was tempted to stop here and declare it done. I waited another day or so, had a second...third...fourth look, then decided it needed more.

Final layering effects added....

Then, completion:
2009, 16 x 16 x 2 inches, acrylic on panel
