Fluidity: Aqua #10, 2010, 14 x 11 inches, gouache on paper

Several paintings from the "Fluidity: Aqua" series have been a challenge. It's not a complicated execution- apply turquoise washes, let dry, apply grays and layer accordingly; and yet there's much room for error. Some of it is beyond my control but the idea is to not control everything. That's where the properties of the medium come in: but the drips don't always cooperate, the colors run where they're not supposed to, the drying time varies according to humidity levels, wind (open-air living, remember), and the amount of water in the mix.

This one took ages to complete. In the end, the effort is worth the result.
