Last Saturday, my art-starved friends Sue and Michele (pictured, right) and I attended an opening at BVI Inside Art Gallery, featuring the works of Guyana-born Kwesi Bovell.

Kwesi's use of space, shape and form are indicative of his background in sculpture. His vibrant, colorful abstracts are reminiscent of time spent in sub-Saharan Africa, where he taught secondary art and exhibited his work in Botswana and Zambia.

The artist now lives and works on Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands. When not painting, Kwesi teaches art at a local school.

From the artist's website: Nizhoni Tidings, Kwesi Bovell, 2009, 18 x 22", acrylic on canvas

Inside Art Gallery is one of two fine art galleries in Road Town, Tortola. They're located at 145 Main Street- open Monday through Friday.
