Seeing your work makes me very curious to what encaustic painting entails! It looks like it has the translucence of watercolors but the textures are divine!

I wish I was down there to come to your show!

plasticanimal,
Encaustic is a curious and wonderful medium. Because of the beeswax, there is translucency (a property that initially got me interested in encaustic), which varies according to pigment-to-medium ratio. I LOVE working in encaustic.
The gallery had a fantastic turnout- good to see so many art enthusiasts here.

plasticanimal,
I meant to add: YES, encaustic is rather like watercolor in its translucency but with texture. However, unlike watercolor, encaustic can be re-worked (such as with oils).
I encourage you try give encaustic a try. You can even use it on watercolor paper but you have to adhere the paper to a rigid surface at some point. (I personally haven't used paper; I paint directly on birch panel.)
